SAM is the most comprehensive solution for managing public-use PC technology in libraries. It can serve as the foundation for a long-term technology plan that empowers patrons with self-service, improves staff efficiency, and recovers print costs...all using the libraries' current library cards!

SAM is a scalable solution that enables you to share limited computer resources among many patrons. This frees staff from constant involvement with the PCs and returns them to being librarians. Sharing the PCs establishes common Internet access for each patron according to your policy and in compliance with Federal and State Regulations.

SAM enables you to save paper, and control/recover print costs. Over printing and wasteful printing is a common problem in many libraries. With SAM you set common print policies for every patron. Free pages per day, black/white vs. color printing charges, and limiting the pages printed per job are all common policies that save paper and recover print costs.

SAM is the Total Solution for Managing Public PCs:

Authentication Manager

By linking with your automation software, SAM enables the patron to sit down at any public PC in your library and log on.

Sign-Up Manager

SAM's Sign-Up Station empowers patrons with self-service. Sign-Up Stations are dedicated areas where patrons can sign-up to use a PC. With Tru-Q technology, SAM assigns the next available PC to the next person waiting on the list.

Session Manager

Session Manager ensures that every patron receives the same amount of time on your public PCs. Consecutive sessions, daily log on limits, and overall time limitations are all features of Session Manager.

One advanced feature is Flex Time technology. This automatically extends a patrons time on your PCs when many of the PCs are not in use. All of Session Manager's features free staff from getting involved with managing how much time patrons and visitors spend on the public PCs.

Internet Access Manager

Internet Access Manager helps you maintain your own Internet policies, along with State and Federal regulated policies. Internet Access Manager is CIPA compliant and integrates with leading Internet filters, such as 8e6 Technologies.

Print Manager

Print Manager applies your print limits, enabling you to control or recover print costs. With Print Manager you have the option of giving daily free pages, charging for Black/White vs. Color printing, along with many other options. Not only can Print Manager recover print costs, but it can save your library paper by limiting the number of pages patrons can print at a time.

Report Manager

Report Manager places statistical and/or comprehensive usage data at your fingertips. Every aspect of SAM can be generated into a report.

Staff - PC Activity Manager

The PC Activity Manager is the only interface that the library's public-service staff needs to learn with SAM. This powerful interface enables staff to access specified patron data, record fine/fee payments, view all current computer activity and waiting lists and control a full range of functions over the public-use computers all from the convenience of their desk.

Other customer service functions from the PC Activity Manager include the ability to log people on and off, send messages to specific PCs, extend time or end a session, close a browser or shut down/restart a PC.

With the PC Activity Manager's "Visitor Card" button, staff can effortlessly issue time-limited cards to library visitors. Visitor cards are good for one day and can have their own session policies, print policies, or can be treated as a regular patron.

Centralized, Web-based Administration

SAM's state-of-the-art architecture allows it to be configured conveniently through the Internet while maintaining a high level of security. This means it can be configured and maintained from anywhere, at anytime. SAM's architecture also allows client workstations to automatically pull down all changes and updates, significantly simplifying configuration changes. SAM also is equipped with a Safe Mode if your network goes down.

SAM supports a multi-level hierarchy of views for configuration, maintenance and database access. This means that each member of your staff has access to only what they need to see; limiting the chance of human error. Multi-site network administrators benefit from SAM's centralized management with real-time "current activity" and financial transactional information reports for all locations over the web.
